The Zenful Blogger Gets Juicy: Days 9 and 91/2 of 10 On the Juice (Cleanse that is)

Hey there Zenful Dancers!

I’d like to start off by saying that this week’s New Girl episode “Birthday” is great!

Next I’d like to thank the Academy…

Finally I’d like to thank the folks who have reached out over the last 10 days to show their support while I’ve been on this cleanse- you know who are and I appreciate you so very much!  This was a challenging process for me and I honestly don’t think I could have gotten through it without the likes of you! 🙂

Tonight marks the end of my 10-day cleanse and I celebrated early- wait, what? (oops!) by breaking the fast this afternoon with a delicious granny smith apple. And what an apple it was!  Deeevine!  Deeelectable!  Deeelicious!  Deeelovely (for all my Deeelite fans).  In my experience it’s always best to ease back into eating solid foods slowly, so as not to damage the goods if you know what I’m sayin’.  No, not those goods, silly.  The other goods!

We however, have some unfinished business left to do:  I have more FABULOUS recipes to share with you!

The Zenful Blogger Gets Juicy: Day 6 of 10 On the Juice (Cleanse that is)

Zenful Dancers!  Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!  How the heck are ya?  I feel like it’s been a whole day since we’ve last…

O.K. so here’s the gist of it:  Today was day 6 and I have not cheated once yet this whole time.  Even though this is my fourth crack at a juice cleanse, I still surprise myself that I haven’t eaten any food yet.  Of course, I haven’t really been hungry at all.  I drink juice when I’m hungry and I do my best to keep my calories up and drink tons of water.  This all seems to be working very well except I CANNOT STOP LOOKING AT PICTURES OF FOOD ON THE INTERNET.  I know, I know; this sounds like maybe somebody else you know. 😉

Sadly I have been looking at online cookbooks and dreaming up new recipes for my soon-to-be-eating-food-freedom-day.  Frankly, it’s sick.  I know I have a problem.  I have every intention of finishing this cleanse but I can’t help but look!

PUSHING ONWARDS JUICERS!!!

******Day 6******

CHOPPIN’ (AND JUICIN’) BROCCOLImakes 1 serving, 431 calories per serving

Broccoli, 1 bunch

Ginger root, 1″ or 5 slices, raw

Rainbow swiss chard, 2 leaves

Bosc pear, 2 medium

Wash thoroughly, chop and combine in juicer.  Quite good.  Enjoy!

CONFUSED VAMPIRE (leftovers)

ALL GREENS PLUS1 serving (store bought), 221 calories per serving

GO AHEAD MAKE MY DAY (fresh batch)

BLUEBERRY WATERMELON SURPRISEmakes 1 serving, 240 calories per serving

Blueberries, 2 cups

Watermelon, 5 ounces

Wash, juice and enjoy!  What!!? I thought adding “SURPRISE” into the title would make things sound more exciting!  The surprise is in the taste! 😉

And there you go my friends!   Good night and good luck and juice safely!

The Zenful Blogger Gets Juicy: Day 1 of 10 On the Juice (Cleanse that is)

Hey Zenful Dancers, Happy New Year to you! And a Happy New Year to me too!  I’ve just invested in a juicer; the masticating kind.

What’s that you say Zenful Blogger?  Your juicer masticates?  Why yes, it does!  This baby chews the food to a pulp rather than pushing the juice away from the pulp (that’s the centrifugal kind).  This masticating juicer tends to be a bit more expensive but (apparently) I’ll get more juice out of my leafy greens- and those add up rather quickly$$$!  So I’m putting it to the test.

This is my fourth cleanse ever and the longest term for me yet!  I am interested in doing some deep cleaning and ridding myself from candida and my addiction to sugar.  I think this should help do the trick. 😉

I intend to post and track my juices here in case you want to follow along to pick up a good recipe- most are my own creations (I’m hopeful they’ll be tasty) or you can always join me- but it’s always a good idea to check with your Doctor first please!

Unless otherwise noted, all fruits and veggies are organic.  I plan to drink 6-8 juices each day and supplement with plenty of distilled water.  PLENTY OF WATER!!!

Dinjuice: TOMATOES DELISH

2 medium tomatoes

4 kale leaves

6 stalks of celery

2 cloves of garlic

1/2 small lime

Makes 1, 12oz glass

Wish me some juicy luck and cheers, to great health!

Crank Up the Heat and Apple Cider

I eat a lot of fish.  That statement may sound strange to some people (don’t judge me) but it’s true.  Salmon, sardines, herring, bass, the occasional tuna, Branzino, talapia.  I’ll eat it tartar style, sushi-grade-raw and of course baked, pan fried, sauteed, breaded (gluten free, of course!).

Eating this amount of fish comes with a certain responsibilty- I’m not talking about wild caught vs. farmed.  I’m talking about the HOSTS.  No, no, not Stephanie Meyer’s new sequel to the space invaders original (it’s actually quite good), but our little friends who feed off the fish and once digested feed off of us!  Ew.

While I’m not absolutely sure I require some cleansing action, I’ve been experiencing a couple signs (fatigue, abdominal discomfort… must I go on?) For the next few weeks I’m taking on some cleansing action to rid myself of any potential er “issues” (hey there buddy, yeah YOU, there’s no such thing as a free lunch!!!).  1 Tbsp. of Apple Cider (check!).  Lots of water (check!).  Sauna-time 3 times a week (check!)  Get the sugar in check since they seem to have just as big of a sweet tooth as I do (working on this one).

Soon I will be host free and hopefully have some new found energy!

If you Zenful Dancers have any additional suggestions of how to become host free, shoot me a message right here on the ‘ol TZB!  And remember it has to be Gluten Free!

Keep on keepin’ on and keep it clean folks!  🙂

Counting Down to Day 11 (Day 118 out of 129) of the Middle Path Makeover – Cleanse

Spring has finally, finally arrived (I was beginning to have my doubts that it ever would). So yay and hallelujah for Spring! In honor of Springtime and the fact that my body could really use a break, I am doing a juice fast for six days. I’ve already done my clean-eating preparation for the last 6 days so I’m ready to go! I can’t wait to feel great! I did a cleanse similar to this about 5 years ago in order to flush my system of some black mold that had found its way into my lungs (gross!). By the end it was gone truly amazing! So I will be checking in with you along the way to keep you posted on my progress. I know days one and two are the hardest, so my apologies in advance if the status for tomorrow and Thursday say something like “hungry” and “still hungry”. 🙂

Juicing can be great but it’s a pretty extreme thing to do to your body and you of course would want to check with your doctor before trying one out. So here are 3 great ways to help clean your system even without doing a juice fast:

1. Skin brushing: Try dry brushing your skin with a dry loofah (in a direction away from your heart). This exfoliates the dead skin cells and promotes better blood flow in the skin, leaving you with a lovely glow! It’s kind of scratchy but quite invigorating!

2. Water and lemon: Start your day with a cup of hot water (room temp is good too) and slices of fresh lemon or lemon juice. This will really get your system moving if you know what I mean.

3. Stop eating at least 2 hours before bedtime: This gives your body a good chance to digest the food from dinner before you hit the lights. You might sleep better too!

Well that’s it for now… tomorrow, JUICE for me it is!

Keep on keepin’ on and keep it fresh and clean,

-Leah Joy, The Zenful Blogger
